‘Now You See Me’ follows a super-team of the world’s greatest magicians called “The Four Horsemen” as they pull of a series of heists while evading a squad of FBI agents – almost like a cat and mouse chase that includes Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) and an Interpol detective, Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent).
French director Louis Leterrier, known for ‘The Transporter’ and ‘Clash of the Titans’, is no stranger to visual extravagance and quick action. This film sees a lot of this through the CGI illusions, as well as plenty practical tricks, and the fast-paced action sequences. There is a lot of sweeping camera shots, and it hardly ever slows down which keeps the audience on their toes trying to keep up with what’s going on.
The cast features stars from various countries including Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Mélanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. The casting seems a little off on first glance, but the actors play their parts well in roles that are not usual for any of them.
Overall, this film is entertaining whether you understand what just happened or not and will keep audiences watching the whole time by distracting them with grand visuals and high-pace action sequences.
‘Now You See Me’ has a run time of 2hrs 5mins, and is rated 12 for language, some action and sexual content. Even if you don’t like magic, this is well worth watching.
